HOW TO make an Ichigo Bag

A recent house guest from Japan gave me a little gift; inside was a set of rings, a scarf and the following instructions.....

I love how simple this is and after my guest departed set about making my own version of the ICHIGO (strawberry) BAG.

To make the scarf I combined an Alexander Henry fabric called 'Rolling Hills' with a design from Umbrella Prints called Rock Dots available through Kelani FabricThe cane rings came from L'uccello.

The ICHIGO BAG is shown here with our MINNIE MINI made up in a matching fabric called Stone Flowers also by Umbrella Prints.

The pattern for the POCKET TOP is coming soon.

Lickety-Split Skirt

Playful and flirty; a skirt for girls on the go!

The LICKETY-SPLIT SKIRT features a comfortable pull-on waistband and overlapping side splits that go all the way up to the top.  Push it down low on the hips, throw on a summery top and off you go.

We recommend medium weight fabrics and made our LICKETY-SPLIT SKIRT from an Italian linen viscose blend found at Tessuti in Melbourne.  The pattern is available in Australian sizes 8-14 from our Etsy shop.

The LICKETY-SPLIT SKIRT is worn here with the BATHING SUIT TOP (pattern available soon); the bangles are from Collezione Alessandro

Hello Luscious

Every girls dream....

Happily our MINNIE MINI pattern is now available at L'uccello and
as luck would have it just as I was visiting a new collection of fabrics was being unwrapped.  Collectively called 'Hello Luscious', they come in the most delicious array of patterns with colour names like Bubblegum and Raspberry Syrup.

Kim was kind enough to give me some to try so I made up a MINNIE MINI for her in-store display.  Printed in Japan onto 100% cotton it has a lovely silky feel and was very easy to work with.

HOW TO make a jersey binding with rolled edge

A new style, called TRUCK STOP TOP (pattern coming soon), includes the attachment of a jersey binding with rolled edge, here's how you do it....

1. Measure around each of the openings.

2. Cut enough strips of the jersey fabric to go around each opening without joins, in this case I cut my strips 3cm wide.  You can cut across the fabric or in line with the selvedge, I usually go with which ever direction will give me the most roll.

3. With the wrong side of the binding facing the right side of garment overlock both together stretching the binding slightly as you go.  The garment underneath should not be stretched.  (Some jersey fabrics will naturally roll toward the right side, if so overlock with right sides together)

4. Press the seam toward the body.  Give the raw edges a good blast of steam and you should end up with something like this.

The fabric used in the examples above is from Tessuti and the pattern for the TRUCK STOP TOP will be available very soon from our Etsy shop.

Just for fun!

Some flirty fun from Sonia Rykiel inspired a nautical version of our pointy collar.

The vintage button and applique lace anchor were both found at L'uccello as was the dotty fabric.  Kim has copies of the DRESS-ME-UP COLLAR SET pattern in stock and if you'd like to try the collar on the sample is on display in store.

Kelani

Very exciting! our patterns are now available on-line from Kelani Fabric.   Kelani is most definitely for the fabric obsessed, the range is enormous with fabrics suitable for everything from lingerie (our knickers of course!) to home furnishings.

Elissa stocks fabrics from many Australian designers and was kind enough to send me a few to try out; from the Rock Garden range, Rock Dots in orange and Stone Flowers in multi. Both fabrics are from Umbrella Prints and were designed and printed in Australia by the clever Amy Prior and Carly Schwert.

I used them to make a flowery version of our MINNIE MINI pattern adding some sporty stripes to the back.

Minnie's Mini

Presenting the MINNIE MINI, inspired by my diminutive and oh so gorgeous friend of the same name.

A simple pull-on style with overlapping side splits that go all the way up to the waist, the MINNIE MINI takes only a few hours to make and under a metre of fabric.  Worn low on the hip the skirt measures 30.5cm (12") from top to hem and the pattern is now available in Australian sizes 6-12 from our Etsy shop.

We made our MINNIE MINI in a medium weight printed cotton which we cut on the bias, the waistband is in a stretch twill; both fabrics were found at Tessuti in Melbourne.
