Quilting

My HOOD HAT, PARTY DRESS and BIG BUNNY sewing patterns all include quilted panels of fabric.  It looks like a complicated process but in reality, once you know how, it's super easy.

    

 The wadding (also known as batting) is usually quite wide so I'm using up all my leftovers to make a round cushion.  The patterned fabric is from a collection by NINA CAMPBELL (rabbit hole warning!!!) and for the underside I cut up an old pillow case.  

I recommend making your fabric sandwich just big enough to fit the pattern as it can become a little bulky and difficult to handle if the piece is too large.  I've added a detailed HOW TO right here. I used top stitching thread and if you've never sewn with it before there's also a HOW TO for that here.

Abstract Art Cushions

Always experimenting and making things, I just can't stop.  

This time I turned some of my abstract art into a bunch of cushions.  Digitally printed by Frankie & Swiss in South Yarra onto a Belgian Cotton Linen in Oatmeal.

Mid tone brights on an oatmeal background.  The fabric is thick and textured and would look great as a feature surrounded by mountains of solid colours, textures or maybe even some complementary prints.

Cushion Project

I once heard someone explain serendipity as accidentally on purpose and that's the perfect description for the cushion project.

 Put simply I took some leftovers, reminders of a personal failure, messed about with them and turned it all into a series of artworks.  Above DECK CHAIRS and and a multi coloured version of HATS OFF printed digitally using solvent free water based pigment inks.

Need multiples or different sizes maybe?  No problem, just contact me via my Etsy shop and we'll work together to create the perfect assortment.  HATS OFF is available in both an aqua blue and dusty pink and can be supplied in any size.  For inserts The Bedroom has a wide variety of sizes in both 100% duck feather and duck/polyester combo.

All cushions come with the pinhead stamp of approval, more print options coming soon.

Clumsy but cute

Ok, so my name is Pamela and I'm completely addicted to GIF Animation.  I've been living with my addiction for a total of maybe 48hrs now and I need sleep!

The Square

Favourites from the Prada Fall 2013 menswear collection.

Inspired by the mix of colour I went on the hunt for some fabrics to use for my latest cushion cover pattern.  I combined scraps from my stash, including some left over feed sack fabric found at L'uccello, plus something I've had my eye on at Tessuti for a while.

These versions of THE SQUARE have a decidedly masculine feel, some girly options can be viewed right here.  The pattern for THE SQUARE is now available from my Etsy shop.

Powder Puff

Vintage style for Modern girls.

A promotional shot for the 1957 film Silk Stockings features the utterly gorgeous Cyd Charisse seated on what looks like a giant powder puff....I totally approve!
  
I got all inspired and created the POWDER PUFF cushion cover. It's not quite as big as Cyd's, but with a finished diameter of 58cm it's just the right size for a quick get-away.

 The pattern for the POWDER PUFF is now available from my Etsy shop.  For this version I cut the front panels in the same fabric alternating between the right and wrong sides but you could also make it up in contrasting prints.  

  
For the cushion inner I re-purposed an old feather doona; not, it turns out, an indoor job!  The printed sateen twill came from Tessuti and the Liberty print for the back was found at L'uccello.

 

Charlie is also wearing the TIE SIDE knickers made up in a Liberty print called August Rose.

Wardrobe V Pantry

Recently featured as part of a series of fashion related talks at the National Gallery of Victoria were the Melbourne based authors of WARDROBE V PANTRY who match photographs of fashion with food.

 So how hard can this be?....well, as it turns out, very! It was so hard in fact, that I gave up and started screen shopping.

So above a new cushion cover pattern I'm working on called POWDER PUFF and, after hours and hours of searching, it's food handbag nemesis c/o Dolce & Gabbana....chosen mostly because I just want one!

The POWDER PUFF shown is made from a selection of vintage feedsack fabrics found at L'uccello.  For the inner I re-purposed an old feather doona (feathers everywhere!); the bias binding used for the edge also came from L'uccello.  

The pattern for the POWDER PUFF will be released shortly.

Feedsacks

Girly versions of a new cushion cover pattern I'm working on called THE SQUARE. These covers are made out of a collection of vintage feedsacks found at L'uccello in Melbourne.

Kim will be taking a large number to the Australasian Quilt Convention in April ....run, don't walk, these utterly beautiful fabrics will be gone in the blink of an eye.
