Raw edged perfection

Raw edges in perfect proportion.

Favourite shots from the Fall 2013 Haider Ackermann collection all incorporated the use of frayed and distressed effects across various fabrics and leather including crocodile skin.

Crocodile skin pant of my dreams!

new pattern THE BANDEAU

Something for Summer; the pattern for THE BANDEAU is now available from my Etsy shop in sizes 6-14.  A simple pull on style suitable for an A to C cup bust and it's worn here with the FRIDA SKIRT (coming soon).

The sample was made in a Liberty print floral found at Tessuti in Melbourne; the necklace, earrings and ring are all from Collezione Alessandro.

Little Hearts

The LITTLE TRUCK STOP TOP in little hearts.

The sample combines a lightweight cotton blend jersey with woven yarn dyed stripe in cotton and both came from Tessuti in Melbourne.  I didn't have enough to make a double layered hem so the edge is simply overlocked and it actually looks ok.

The pattern for the LITTLE TRUCK STOP TOP is available in girls sizes 7-10 from my Etsy shop.  The TRUCK STOP TOP pattern for women in sizes 6 to 14 can be found right here

Stitch 56 Interview

Last week I sat down with the lovely Helene from Stitch 56 to have a chat about my sewing patterns and what I have planned for The Makers' Journal in 2013.

The promotional code mentioned by Helene is valid until midnight on the 8th of February so just head across to the Stitch 56 website to participate.

The Wrong Side

Sometimes the best match is just all wrong.

When recently faced with an instance of fabric matching frustration I opted for the reverse side.

The wide hem band is an important feature of this Japanese design and I wanted to cut it in a contrast colour.  The dress is actually made from an old linen table cloth which has a beautifully faded out version of the print visible on the wrong side.  It seems the obvious choice now that it's finished and I couldn't have dreamt a better match.

My niece also scored an outfit for which I had no trouble finding contrasts.  Something to do with being small, super cute and 1....everything looks good together!

The Liberty print binding came from L'uccello and the yarn dyed check was a found at Tessuti in Melbourne.
